A filmmaking project to develop digital skills, learning fundamentals of filming & editing and researching their local community.
Over the course of 6 months, 12 schools from their SIG (School Improvement Group) took part in a filmmaking project with BLC. Each School had to produce, film and edit a selection of videos that highlight landmarks within their local community. These would then go on to be presented as part of a showcase day to round up the project.
Each school organised their own group of budding film makers that would work throughout the project on their own films. To start we focused on the importance of how to take great footage that would make the videos stand out. We did this by giving examples of shots and letting the pupils experiment using the iPads that they will create the movie on.
Over the following 4/5 months, the schools then went off and filmed around their area, collating all the footage they needed for their final films. They then came back for an editing day at Tramshed Tech. The teachers & pupils worked tirelessly throughout the day on iMovie to put the finishing touches to their videos before uploading each video to the SIG 17 youtube channel.
As an exciting end to the project we showcased each video at The Tramshed Music Venue. We invited in the region of 350 guests to attend, these included teachers, pupils, parents and friends of each School, this made for a spectacular finale to a hugely successful SIG project.
My digital leaders and I really enjoyed coming to work with people in the industry. It was great for us to see that the skills being learnt at school had a real-world application. They loved using the tripods and editing their films!
